Paediatricians have a wide range of responsibilities. They do everything from perform well-baby checkups to manage chronic medical conditions. Paediatricians provide preventive care and also diagnose and treat infections, injuries and diseases. Paediatricians:

When should my child visit a paediatrician?

Your baby’s first paediatrician visit should be within 48 to 72 hours of leaving the hospital. Their second visit should be at two to four weeks old. During their first year, your child should see their paediatrician at two, four, six, nine and 12 months of age. After your baby’s first birthday, they should be seen at 15, 18 and 24 months. After that, annual visits with your child’s paediatrician are recommended. Also, appointments can be made any time that you have a health concern or your child is ill.

Why should my child visit a paediatrician?

Well-child visits are important for the health and well-being of your child. At these appointments, your child’s paediatrician evaluates your child’s overall physical and emotional health. They make sure your baby’s development is appropriate for their age. Your child’s paediatrician also gives your baby recommended vaccines to help protect them from infections. At your child’s well-child visits, you’ll have the opportunity to talk to your child’s paediatrician about any concerns you may have about your child’s health.
